can i get through universities for an mba without work ex?

by admin on February 2, 2010

hi karan, i am currently doing my 2nd yr grads in india and want to do mba abroad, can i persuade mba just after grads with showing part time work ex along with grads.

Look for universities which offer combined BA/MBA degrees. Those universities are more likely to allow students with little or no work experience to apply and enroll in their MBA program simply because the students in the special BA/MBA program start the MBA just before graduation from the Bachelors program. Strong GPA and test scores are probably required to substitute no work experience. Good luck!

The difficulty you might have is that many MBA programs are rooted in work experience. You might be asked to do assignments and analyses that are based on the assumption that you currently work in some kind of administrative capacity (and a further assumption that your employer will make information available to you).

While many of the course modules can be completed using information from online databases and case studies, the degree to which an MBA program relies on application in the workplace will vary from program to program. The only way to know is to ask them directly.

The universities which run these online programs should be prepared to answer such questions. if you do not have a specific university in mind, I recommend you contact Athabasca University (based in Canada). They are specialists at online/distance learning and they are particularly proud of their MBA program.

Most MBA programs prefer students with 2-3 years work experience after the first degree, but many accept students right out of college if they have good grades and a high GMAT score. Some MBA programs are designed specifically for new college graduates without work experience.

Before you consider which MBA program is for you, consult the Official MBA Guide, a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, etc), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. You can use the Guide to contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria. It’s the best service available at http://officialmbaguide.org.
