by admin on March 6, 2010

iam a current university student and i will be graduating in a year and i was thinking to form an import&export business . the only problem is i dont have much experience in this area so what are the chances of me suceeding ?? please write some tips and advice for me to make this business succecful ??? is there like some courses that i need to do ?? thank you

It takes hard work to run any business successfully.

You need to to do some homework before you start. You need to find out what kind of licenses you will need, research what kind of things you intend to import or export. You also need to find out what kind of financial risk you’ll be undertaking.

(For instance, suppose Company A buys a cargo-load of tee-shirts from you but they fall into the sea in a storm. Who has just lost the cargo – you or the buyer? The answer probably depends on the contract you agreed to. Can you accept this kind of risk ?)

It might not hurt to work at such a company in your area for a bit, just to get a feel for the business.

Good luck.

No business is "easy". Any "easy" business will see tough competition.

A thumb rule for success in small business: go for the tough route and you’ll see great margins and little competition.

It’s a tough business…. built on years of contacts and confidence building…. Why not get you a job with a import/export broker, learn the business, and then make a decision about the future… This is a business that you can’t just throw your hat into the ring and be successful.
