Politics: How do you feel about our tax money going to Israel?

by admin on March 9, 2010

….a state that is condemned by more UN Human Rights Council resolutions than all other countries in the world.

Do you not find it morally reprehensible and fiscally irresponsible that Israel receives $3 billion per year in contravention to the Arms Export Control Act (AECA) and the Foreign Assistance Act (FAA), while millions of Americans are suffering from poverty, lack of jobs and substandard education?

I find it funny that every American politician seems to be in favor of a two-state solution, but financially support policies that make such a solution impossible. We need to cut off Israel for a while to coerce them into making peace with the Palestinians.

It needs to stop, Israel needs to be ostracized just like Apartheid South Africa

Anthony E: No, it has a pro-human bias, while Israel behaves as if it’s still the 1800s (or 1930s Germany)

Good. Israel is a strong country on the front lines of terror. They’re the only country we can count on militarily. If Israel is destroyed, the USA will be completely alone.

You know, idiot, we give to other countries as well. Why are you only talking about Israel?

I do not like it one bit and I find it ridiculous that people who complain about the government helping our own citizens support that policy.

We as Americans have an obligation to pay our taxes once we pay our taxes the only way we get to decide how it is spent is through whom we elect. If you don’t like what your elected officials are doing don’t vote for them if your candidate does not win, you may have been wrong in your opinion.

We give money to Israel, because we need them. They are one of our only allies in the Middle East, and one of the few countries that is taking action against terrorism. And the only reason Israel is considered a violater of human rights is because the UN has a pro-Islamic bias. If you notice you will see that it’s only Islamic Middle-Eastern countries that accuse Israel of human rights violations.

It’s wrong of the U.S. to fund a nuclear-armed, hyper-aggressive, theocratic, apartheid, terrorist regime, but there’s nothing we can do about it.

Their lobby is too strong and they are embedded within every aspect of out government.

While I agree that it makes no sense to send them so much taxpayer money I don’t see how the UN Rights Council is relevant.

The reason they have so many rights violations is because the Arab block countries push them through to misdirect the anger of people in their countries by means of propaganda. This is not to say that Israel has been perfect in their treatment of Palestinians, but compared to countries like North Korea, Sudan, and Saudi Arabia it pales in comparison

What was more surprising is Obama getting the Nobel peace prize before he had even warmed his seat. He loves using them drones, blowing up a wedding party, kill kids- so peace loving.

Israel’s adventures with America weapons and money have done a lot to ensure that the "war on terror" started in the first place.

There seemed to be hope of a de-escalation of American stupidity in the world after Bush- Obama does not seem to be doing much different to BusH

We can protest but really we have no choice how our tax dollars are spent.

First of all the whole UN/AECA/FAA thing is just talking points. Putting politics aside, the question about aid to Israel is apparently problematic for one of 3 reasons, it is either we are sending $2.7B to Israel when we don’t have the money for our own people or that 75% comes back to the US for weapons (Kind of a corporate welfare) or that we are breaking some kind of laws about sending money to buy weapons.

If it is just that we are spending money we don’t have, then why not have a problem with $1.9B going to Egypt with the same 75% going toward weapons or the $0.9B going to the Palestinians or the $0.8B going to Pakistan or the $0.7B going to Jordan?

If it is the corporate welfare, then why just focus on the defense industry. The US govt. spends somewhere around $75B on direct subsides to private business.

If it is breaking the rules as suggested, then why not have the same problem with Egypt which gets a similar amount of money with a similar percentage going to arms sales?

I have no problem with money sent to Israel. They are an ally of the US. Just as I have no problem with the money sent to Egypt, Jordan or any of the others on the list… but if you cut one you should cut them all. Whichever the reason you cite.
