All are very essential fields, which can pay quite well if one is well versed and capable.

There are some very basic distinctions between these three fields, however.

1. Import/Export Management is typically about communication with different countries, which implies an understanding of various language and cultural norms. It also requires a rigorous understanding of the legal compotents of international shipping. Lastly, IEM mandates a very very close attention to detail, as much of the value added through a position in an IEM department is finding cost savings through systems such as 6-Sigma.

2. Finance is all about numbers and spreadsheets. Have you ever taken a Finance class before? If dealing with present value and currency conversion equations is something that you find interesting (and you are a wizz at MS Excel) that it might be something that you enjoy.

3. Marketing is more about ideas -- the key to Marketing management is finding ways to understand your core customer, finding ways to create a product/service that they like, and then finding ways to communicate with them that entices them. In short, Marketing is about "finding ways." The industry requires significant problem solving skills and out-of-the-box thinking.

All require a strong mind, a commitment to detail, and a drive to be able to sell ideas within a company.
References :
Masters Biz Admin
