What specifics does one look for when they are deciding who should be their customs broker for importing and exporting freight from the United States or Canada???
Which ways can a Customs Broker add value for their customers?
Good question.
I use Milne & Craighead, who just got bought out by Livingstons. They do a pretty good job, but like all brokers you need to have a specific contract drawn up listing all the charges. I know we used to get whacked with a ton of ACIC charges until I threatened to take my business elsewhere and then they put a cap on the fees. I get quotes on services from other brokers about every other year just to make sure i’m not tied into an old higher $ contract. I have had the odd problem with M&C but on the whole they are pretty good. Just take note that this is a changing industry and brokers are being swallowed up right left and center by the bigger companies.
