I’d like, within PHP, to have a variable or something I can reference that will indicate the revision and also the path that was exported from subversion. A way to have a file "version.php" dynamically generated at export that has declarations that reflect the version and path used as parameters to the export command?
Thanks Robin T, but the problem is that we’re doing SVN export- which means there won’t be any SVN metadata in the folders to query with ’svn info’.

I guess I was thinking something more along the lines of a hook that would always update a certain file with the version info whenever anyone committed anything. I wouldn’t want to muck up the logs and all with an explicit second commit or anything- I really have no idea how this might be acheived.

The only answer I’ve been able to come up with is to write a special export script for the project that would do the export and then create a version.php file with nothing but "<?php define(’REVISION’, blah);" but taht seems quite a bit messy. And, an export script like that would have to parse the output of ’svn info’ as you suggested.

No easy way to do this. You’d have to call exec() to execute the ’svn info’ command and parse the output to get the revision number.

I dont recall reading anywhere in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution that it is our task to tell other people in the world how they should live. When they attack us thats one thing, but this whole notion that it’s America’s god-given responsibility to export our "values" seems like something some liberal would dream up.

The government’s responsibility is to keep us safe within our borders…if doing that means exporting democracy to stop military dictators from becoming too powerful, that is pretty conservative.

It is an indisputable fact that John Huang, Charlie Trie, Maria Hsia, James Riady (and more) were convicted of disguising the sources of their donations, totalling $2.2 million to their 1996 reelection campaign.

And though Louis Freeh and Charles Labella demands for an investigation was ignored, and they were shielded by Janet Reno. (The law was turned on it head, according to the infamous Labella memo), it is plainly obvious that Sandy Berger’s efforts to demilitarize missile launch technology so it can be exported, declarations of preservations in Utah that forced us to import Riady’s clean coal from Indonesia, and the rewarding of a commerce post to John Huang, who usurped confidential information from our intelligence on Taiwan—-were quite obvious payback for these donations!!!

I was thinking of exporting clothes and bath related merchandise and selling them in central america for a profit. The merchandise would be stuff I would buy on clearance at local stores. Are there any fees, laws, taxes, declarations, penalties, that might make me change my mind about doing something like this?

yes, you have tarifs (taxes) when exporting to other countries. Some of these are pretty high. Also unless you are going to put the stuff in a bag and carry it down there yourself you would have to find a "importer" in that country and pay them to get your stuff through that countries verson of a customes department. Good news is if you do hire an importer they can handle all the shipping of your goods in that country ( which is not as easy as it sounds) In counties in south America you may also run into the need for some "under the table" money to make the process work better.
And do not forget that even sale price stuff in the USA is normally way to expensive for the majority of the population in Central America.
